The GT40, manufactured by GTMOD is a great piece of battery extension of the Onewheel Pint and Onewheel XR. The only thing is that the power plug on the side is located on top of the board and is sensitive to damage if you ever crash. There are a couple of ways to improve the, buying the new GT40 Aluminium Protector, 3D printing your own bumper or mounting it in a better position.
I don’t recommend anyone to run the GT40 without any type of protection, I ride myself with aluminium kit from GTMOD.

GT40 Aluminum Protector Side-Protector kit
The fix the problem with the GT40 GTMOD has launched the side protection kit, a kit many has waited for. This kit is built upon an aluminium frame protecting the cable from snapping off or damaging the internal components. The kit will also protect your GT40’s sidewall, along with the improved low profile connector, it will inspire a ton of confidence on the trail.

The protection kite is a nice machined aluminium anodised in a variable of colours. The git comes with the low profile cable so need to buy an extra.

The price is $32.00 and it includes:
4x Connecting rod
2x Silicon impact pads
1x Low profile DC cable.
1x Set of hardware.
3D Printed Plastic Bumper
The 3D bumpers were the first thing made by the GTMOD team to try and fix the problem with the snapping cable in case the board did roll over on the side. The kit does work on some crashes but will not hold up over the course of time as plastic is not as strong and can easily break after multiple impacts.
Still it’s better than nothing and a 3D printed set is what I used until I got the new Aluminium frame from GTMOD.
Longer cable, change position
The standard cable forces you to mount the GT40 on top of the board, with the drawback that the cord is exposed at the highest point of the board.
EBS DC1-48 90/90 Flat Power Cable 48 cm will allow you to mount the battery on the back of the fender instead of at the top. There is a need to mount the cable alongside the rails and tie it together with some straps. The good part is that the battery is more protected in the back and the cable will be positioned in the lower back corner of the board.
Mounting the battery in the back has always been the way to go on external battery extensions and VnR packs. If you want to know more about extended battery packs for the Pint check out the list.
