There is nothing like ordering a new thing and then having to wait for it to arrive, the Onewheel is really in this category. Then when opening your device you are treated by something you didn’t expect, dust. Don’t panic, this is actually quite normal today when companies are trying to be more environmentally friendly.
Onewheel’s can come with a layer of dust inside its original packaging. The dust comes from the recycled packing material that’s used to hold the board in place. This “egg-crate” packing can release dust during the transportation from the vibration during transit from the site to your home.
Don’t worry about it, it’s normal and just wipe it off with a damp, NOT wet, cloth. Here is a guide on how to clean the Onewheel, something that you will need to do when you start to ride, especially after some fun time at the trails.
The board, like the Onewheel GT, is water-resistant, not waterproof.
The Onewheel did come with some minor scratches.
It’s not uncommon for some boards to have minor scratches when they arrive from the factory. These marks will be from the test ride Future Motion completes as part of the final test. You can be safe, you didn’t get a refurbished board and Future Motion is not screwing you, they are actually testing your board before you need to.
The first time your ride it, even with protection in place, you will scratch it. Step on the board and float away, if you need some instruction check out the beginner guide.
Natural wear and tear that does not affect product function (including scratches and wear and tear on frame rails, footpad, tires, etc)
The Onewheel got some stick glue on it
The sticky marks on the board are most likely coming from the tire sealant that Future Motion is using in the tire to protect it from punctures. Future Motion is using Slime as their protectant. If there is any sticky stuff around the tire and valve it’s from the sealant.
If you ever plan to update the sealant inside the tire, check out Armor-Dilloz Red Armor-Dilloz.
