Onewheel GT Problem red light

The Onewheel GT has been released for a couple of weeks and here is the list of common problems with the board.

Buyers beware: there are a lot of issues with the initial batch of Onewheel GTs, don’t modify your boards as this will void your warranty and you might need to use it. There are people having boards with no problems, still, wait a while to smoke out your before customizing it.

For any failure or problems with your new Onewheel GT contact Future Motion Inc Support to get it sorted as you are under warranty. They have made a good effort in exchanging footpads and boards to customers who have issues.

The Onewheel GT uses the same error codes to indicate problems with the device as the legacy boards. An error is indicated by a yellow or red flashing light, here is the error list.

Board doesn’t start when arrived – To cold battery

The board has a thermal shutdown to save the battery, a common issue with the first board that were shipped during the cold part of the year, was that the board had to become warm to start.

Let the board warm-up before charing or powering it up. It’s common not to charge a board or batteries that are below freezing as this can damage.

Solution: If the problem persists even after the boards has warmed up or anything else happens contact Future Motion Inc Support.

Dead on Arrivail – DOA

There are a couple of reports on DOA boards that are dead when the customer got the board in their hand. Some boards are experiencing the 90% charge and other failures and labelled DOA as the board became dead in the first time of use.

The board should not be dead or non-responsive. Future Motion Inc is replacing the boards.

Ghosting, the board shooting out when dismounting

Ghosting is one of the most common issues with the GT. The board has a newly designed foot sensor. This in combination with a new grip tape and concave footpad cloud is the reason for the issues reported.

In August Future Motion Inc issued a recall of the footpads of the Onewheel GT. Check if your board needs the newly updated pad or if you already got them installed. If you are having the old design, stop riding the board. Many users have got injured and there are hundreds of reports of people having ghosting boards.

A warning you are for a legal point of view responsible for the board when riding, we recommend contacting Future Motion if the board ghosted.

Some users report that heating the grip tape with a hairdryer fixed the issue. It’s better to get a new sensor as the issues might come back.

Solution: Contact Future Motion Inc Support. They most likely will send you a new footpad to install and you will have to ship the faulty back to their facility.

One foot sensor is always engaged

The issue with one sensor engaging is linked to the ghosting boards. Contact Future Motion Inc to get it replaced under warranty.

The Onewheel lightbar pulsate and turns completely off during charge.

The lightbar should be pulsating while charging the board. If it shuts off, contact Future Motion Inc as you most likely got a toast board, dead board send it in for repair.

Bearing problems inside the hub motor

Some users have experienced click sounds and behaviours from the hub motor indicating problems with the bearings. If you are unsure record the sound and send it to Future Motion Inc. There should not be a clicking sound coming from the hub.

The board dosent start after using the 90% charing feature.

There are multiply people reporting that the boards don’t respond after enabling the 90% charging feature of the Onewheel GT. This feature was made for people living on the hillside and really a requested feature from the community.

This is most likely a firmware issue still all users that have got have needed to send the board back in for an update.

Solution: Contact Future Motion Inc Support.

The Onewheel GT dosent power up on the first try.

Need to push the power button multiple times to start the board. This is not intended behaviour and the board should power on at the first try. The green light during boot is not a problem and indicate the self-test.

The recommendation is to contact Future Motion Inc Support to get your board diagnosed and most likely fixed. You will need to send in the board.

Some users have had luck with multiple pressing the power button to engage the board. Another tip is to hold the footpad and turn it on, this will throw a personal space error. After this turn the board off and try again.

Onewheel GT Overheating

There have been numerous reported overheating incidence when riding on steep hills or in a hot climate. The new board has more power combined with a redesigned hub making this board more likely to overheat the motor than the old XR and Pint.

Solution: Removing the sideguards will help as the frame is used as a heat sink. There are also modifications like ferrofluid and upgrades that can reduce the temperature, these will void the warranty of the board.

BUYERS BEWARE: It looks like Future Motion is getting problems with shipping the board worldwide as it’s a powerful device. Users are reporting the account being under shipping embargo.
