Onewheel Glider (Wheels and a Handle)

Onewheel glider

The Onewheel glider is a system that replaces the original bumpers of the Onewheel XR. They both give nosedive protection with added wheels to the bumper and a foldable handle making it possible to roll the Onewheel like a piece of luggage when riding is no longer an option.

A third added feature is the ability to securely stand your OneWheel in an upright vertical position.

The Onewheel glider system was developed and manufactured by SynergyWiz, a company that specialised in custom-made innovation and solutions. Their homepage can be found here.

Onewheel Gliders are Discontinued – 3D print your own

The Onewheel Gliders are discontinued and SynergyWiz has done something great, they have released the files so anyone can 3D print their own Glider v2. They both provide the 3D files and a list of all the necessary hardware needed to build them. This is truly a nice gesture to the community.

The sad part is that SynergyWiz tried to launch a Kickstarter campaign to fund an injection-molded version of the Gliders that wasn’t successful. 3D printing them became too much to handle from a manufacturing point of view. So instead they release the file to the public.

The files are located on Thingiverse https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3980781

If you are 3D printing them make sure to use some good filament and material. The glider 2.0 was using PETG printer filament. It’s the latest in additive manufacturing materials, and it is heat and weather-resistant.

Do the gilder works to prevent a nosedive

If you are riding with the wheels forward on the Glider then they can help you to recover from a nosedive. As with any wheels, they will not prevent a nosedive, but they can reduce the risk of injury if you ride on a very smooth, hard surface, you are going in a relatively straight line and you react well enough to stay balanced and pull the nose back up again.

There is a risk that the wheel will catch the surface when riding on softer ground. On uneven surfaces like trails with a ruff surface material and debris, they might catch. That being said, it’s better to have them than not, just don’t always expect them to help you.

How to install the Onewheel Glider

When installing the full bumper kit with the handle and wheels, the wheels must be installed on the battery side of the Oneeheel XR because the handle will only fit the front side. This does mean that you would need to ride with the battery side in the front to use the wheels as they are intended.

There is no problem in “changing” the riding stance and riding “backwards” with the battery pack in the front. After a couple of rides, this will come naturally.

Onewheel Fangs vs Glider

There are two key differences between the SynergyWiz Glider and the Land-Surf Onewheel fangs. Both systems have anti-nosedive wheels to let the board slide/glide if you hit the asphalt. The Glider has also an integrated handle making wheeling it along a lot easier than carrying the board.

The other difference comes in the manufacturing process. The Glider is 3D-printed while the Fangs are injection molded plastic. Not only are they easier to manufacture the Fangs they will also be stronger than the 3D-printed Gliders. SynergyWiz tried to get a campaign to fund some molds that sadly didn’t succeed.

Land-surf does supply fangs for all currently released models of the Onewheel while the Gliders are only for the Onewheel XR.
