To gain a safer ride many people, including myself, use front wheels on their Onewheel Pint /Pint X. This is to be able to handle and control the device in case of a nosedive. The wheels reduce the friction of the nose when hitting the ground, instead of launching you forward it will slide giving you time to react, recover from the nosedive or jump off.
These are wheels that you put on your bumper to add a level of safety.
There are four companies supplying front wheels for the Onewheel Pint, Land-surf with the Fangs v2, SonnyWheels with the Silder, CarbonSmith with the V2 Carbonshield bumper, and Tooth-Products with SabreTooth Jr.
Not all front wheels for the Pint work with the Pint X, as they don’t use the same front body.
Deciding on the correct front wheel for the job comes down to, security, style, and price. For me it came down to sleek design and price, making me buy the Land-Surf Fangs V2. Here you can find more information about my installation and comments.
Comparative Table:
Front Wheel Option | Price | Wheel Size | Clearance | Unique Features |
---|---|---|---|---|
Land-surf Fangs v2 | $94.95 | Small | Low | Sleek design |
SonnyWheels Slider | $159.95 | Bigger | High | Greater clearance |
CarbonSmith V2 Carbonshield | $200.00 | Medium | Medium | Protective bumper |
Tooth-Products SabreTooth Jr | $122.50 | Small | Medium | Stability for tricks |
The Most Secure Front Wheels (Slider)
Undoubtedly the most secure front wheels are the Sliders from SonnyWheels. The bigger wheels will have greater clearance than both the Fangs and Carbonshield bumpers. The drawback is the bigger wheels and aesthetic impact. The Fangs v2 is the bumper with the lowest clearance to the ground.
If you want to do what people refer to as nose drags I highly recommend you go for the Sliders. Sonny is well-known in the community and a great guy.
The Sabertooth Jr is a great alternative, with smaller wheels but still good clearance. The wheels are more centered on the board making them a bit more unstable for nose drags.
The Most Sleek Front Wheels (Fangs)
The sleekest front wheels for Onewheel Pint are the Fangs v2 from Land-surf. The integrated wheels in the bumper are almost not noticeable when riding with they are installed.
The downside is the small wheels that might not save you on uneven ground. They work best if you mostly ride on pavement/concrete and not during a trail ride.
A good thing are that the Fangs come with a 1-year warranty and a guarantee. If any issues arise during use, we’ll replace it! Just contact us if you ever have an issue.
The Best Priced Front Wheels (Fangs)
Here comes the Land-Surf Fangs v2 in the first place. From cheapest to most expensive are Fangs v2 at $94.95, SabreTooth Jr at $122.50, Sonny Wheels Slider at $159.95, and Carboneshield bumper at $200.
The Fangs V2 is by far the cheapest alternative out there. The material and quality are great and you will not be disappointed.
Conclusion
In summary, choosing the right front wheel for your Onewheel Pint /Pint X is crucial for ensuring a safe and enjoyable riding experience. The article has highlighted several key points that you can consider before you decide.
Front wheels enhance control and safety by reducing the risk of nosedives. They provide valuable seconds to react or recover if a nosedive occurs. It has saved me once, make them well worth it already! Still, it’s not a guarantee, always prioritizes safety by wearing protective gear and practising safe riding techniques.
There are four front wheel options that were discussed – Fangs v2, SonnyWheels Slider, CarbonSmith V2 Carbonshield bumper, and Tooth-Products SabreTooth Jr. Each has its own set of features and advantages.
As always proper maintenance ensures the longevity and performance of your chosen front wheel. These are all ball-bearing wheels so keep them lubed like a skateboard/rollerblade.
